Understanding Paint Coverage.
What is paint coverage?
Paint coverage refers to the total surface area a specific volume of paint can cover when applied to a surface at a standard wet film thickness. Most paint manufacturers list this value on their containers, expressed as square feet per gallon (sq ft/gal) or square meters per liter (m²/L).
Factors such as substrate porosity, surface texture, application method (spray, brush, or roller), and thinning will affect the actual spread rate.
How to use this calculator
1. **Select units**: Choose Imperial (gallons and square feet) or Metric (liters and square meters).
2. **Input your paint volume**: Enter the quantity of paint you currently have or plan to purchase.
3. **Determine spread rate**: Select a paint preset (latex, oil, epoxy) or type in a custom rating from the paint manufacturer.
4. **View results**: The total coverage area will calculate instantly. Make sure this matches or exceeds your room's wall area.
