Should you paint the ceiling?
Ceilings are often painted with special flat white paint to bounce light and hide plaster imperfections, whereas walls are painted with eggshell, satin, or semi-gloss finishes in custom colors.
If you plan to use a different paint type or color for the ceiling, we suggest calculating the walls first, and then running a separate calculation for the ceiling area rather than combining the paint volume together.
Measuring room sizes
Measure the length and width of the floor area using a laser distance measurer or standard measuring tape. Make sure to capture the floor-to-ceiling height (standard residential ceiling heights are typically 8 ft, 9 ft, or 10 ft).
The room calculator operates by building a perimeter mesh of the walls: `Area = 2 × (Length + Width) × Height`.
